About

Welcome to Raising Change, an idea I developed through my deep passion for learning and sharing information about the complexities of parenting and child development.

I've always loved children and have worked with them since I began babysitting in my teenage years! Teaching, coaching and supporting children and parents is what I believe I have been put on this earth to do.

As I'm sure many can relate, my childhood was not all moonlight and roses, not only at home but also in school. I loved learning, and I loved people, so school should have been the ideal environment for me - but the education system didn't like me at all  - I talked way too much and questioned everything

So, when I became a mum, I was hell-bent and determined to offer my two boys a better experience.  I wanted to learn as much as possible about child development to provide them with a stable and supportive childhood without overcompensating due to my personal experience—a delicate balance indeed.

When I left home at the age of seventeen, I had no qualifications, no direction and no guidance. I ended up travelling the world, learning from the many people I met along the way and educating myself in ways that a teacher in a classroom could never have offered.

I spent years exploring neurodevelopment, psychology and spirituality. I read many books and attended various workshops worldwide - even organising a few myself! I practised what I was learning, first on myself and my own children. I then began supporting other parents and educators as they navigated the challenges of raising and educating young children in today's world. I founded an outreach programme, Katie's Readers, which became my passion and purpose.  Eventually, when my boys left for university, I decided to pursue a childhood and youth studies degree.

Yet, even with my passion for education, the most valuable lessons I've learned have been from real-life experiences and deep conversations with experts and professionals in various fields relating to child development, particularly parents. Through their struggles and triumphs, I believe that parents have the incredible opportunity to be real change-makers.

With so much information out there, parents become confused and filled with doubt - besides, who has time?  Raising Change is my way of sharing what I've learned over the years, exploring both the art and the science of parenting. Starting with a big picture view, I use a metaphor of the four seasons to identify the stages of development and then delve into the fundamentals of each season. I highlight the most valuable areas to focus on, enabling parents to make informed decisions with more confidence and ultimately raising the change they want to see in the world.
